97 ford diesel with a 7 stage programmer?

i bought a truck its a 1997 f-350 powerstroke and on it it has a 7 stage programmer is from a dealer and when i asked about the programmer i got an odd answer he said “That it must be in stage 2 for reverse, and the other setting are for power and torque” i dont get why it has to be in stage 2? does this only not make since to me

    What kind of programmer are you talking about??? Sounds like something I’d chunk into the garbage.

    Maybe the other stages are to powerful for the reverse clutch in the tranny. I’ve NEVER heared of this in my 5yrs of modding my trucks. I might take it to a transmission shop that has a MODIS Snap-On scanner and see if it pulls up anything unusual with the transmission (i. e. shift errors). Before I toy with it on the other settings (I’ve never heard of a 7 stage. . . . . but 6 position) I would make sure that I had the torque converter to back it up. See if you can get a hold of the original owner and find out some history on it.

    TS has a 4 position and 6 position chip. . . . DP I think they have a 5,6, and 16 position chip, superchips 1705 programmer has 3 settings. . . . . . . . . . . . . I’ve never heard of something with 7 stages
