Ask him to prove it
I agree with you. I have a 2009 2500HD 4×4 6. 0L and i get 12mpg local driving like a grandma. Afraid to step on it bcof gas prices. Probably would have been cheaper to just buy a horse.
Being a diesel. . . . its possible.
Diesel’s are much more efficient than gas engines.
I would do some on line research before making any purchase regardless.
being a Diesel it better get at least 20 mpg. now it is an 05 so its not as good as todays diesels (i know its only 5 yrs but auto technology has advanced so much in these years), but should still be fairly efficient. My freinds mom has an 08 Dodge ram mega cab with the new 6. 7L Cummins diesel, she is currently getting (remember i said mom so you now it gets babied) 25 mpg in the city and over 30mpg on the highway. I know that the Cummins is by far the best diesle out there, the most powerful and most efficient, and her new Dodge has the new 6 speed auto tranny with 2 overdrives and a lock up torque converter, so its gunna out do a first gen Duramax (which sucks you should really get a second gen they are much better), but it is possible to get great milage out of a huge truck.
it is possible to get over 23mpg with the use of syntethic oils and other fuel conserving techniques.
my 85k10 turbodiesel regulary gets over 22mpg hwy.

I have asked most of my customer what they get most that have the older style pre 2008 new body style get 21 mpg but now that they have to use ultra low sulfur fuel they get 20. Some of the ones with upgraded chip have talked about 23 and 24 but I dont here it as often as 21 mpg.
