A guy we know adds tranny fluid to his brand new
Dodge diesel truck. He says it helps keep things lubricated and helps with gas mileage. My husband was wondering if this is true and if so, does this work for Ford Powerstroke 7.3?

Bad idea – and will void his warranty when the engine fails.
tranny fluid is an amazing thing, My shop instructor used tranny fluid for everything, he even used tranny fluid in his motor crank case, I did hear them mention of tranny fluid in the deisel tank, but only in moderation I think they added as much as a bottle size of fuel injector cleaner
Just my understanding though.
BUT, being a non user of such thought only an observer.
here is a good read.

I was just going to say what I see now another person said. If you have any kind of Warranty, doing this will void it when they find tranny fluid in with the diesel if it damages your Ford in any way.
I’ve never heard of an 18-wheeler driver doing this to his rig so I doubt it’s a good idea.
This is a common practice among light duty trucks, I run tranny fluid, old crankcase oil and vegetable oil through my truck. (1986 F350 6. 9)
Regarding the 18-wheeler comment, We don’t do this as most drivers are now company employees, and most administration are not drivers OR Diesel Techs, so therefore wouldn’t give permission to toss in tranny fluid or other such substance.
Tranny Fluid is a great lubricant, and works great for the pre-ULSD engines.
in the old days ( im dating myself here) we often used a little ATF or engine oil to help give pumps and injectors a little extra lube but nowadays you have to be careful you don’t mess up the computer sensors and such, also some types of ATF have friction material in them so you DO NOT want them going through your fuel system, your dealer will have a good idea of what additives are good or bad
