Can I drive my truck when it needs a new transfer case?

I just found out that I need a new transfer case for my 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD duramax diesel. Can I still drive it until I can afford to fix it?

Also, they are pricing the transfer cases to be from $1,400-$1,800. Could I possibly just replace the transfer case motor, instead of replacing the whole thing?

Please help. Thanks.

You could possibly just have it rebuilt just like they do a transmission, I had one rebuilt in a 01 dodge 2500 and it cost me about 600 and they wanted 1600 to put a new one in, so that might be worth looking into. Also I would not drive it to much because if a gear locks up or something in it it could tare up front and rear driveshaft, transmission and rear end. Hope this helps and good luck

Buy a used one from a salvage yard.
