Can I put on an exhaust system without a muffler or cat?

I have a 2004 Ford F-350 reg cab chassis cab XL. 6.0L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel with the 6 speel manuel tranny. I want it to be loud. can I put just a turn down right at the bolt flange from the downpipe till I can get the parts I need for duel stacks? Or are the muffler and cat looking thing b4 the muffler required? Main point is will or will there not be damage to the engine or related parts if I eliminate the muffler and cat looking thing.

there shouldnt be any engine damage but watch for your emissions laws. i dont know about you guys but it britain you would be fined for not having a cat and deffinatly for no muffler. we have so called ” noise pollution” charges thats why no muffler and obvoius Co2 stuff when you take the Cat off.
But as far as the engine goes you shouldnt do any damage at all.

    YES!!!!!!!

Yes, damage will occur. Engines need backpressure to operate efficiently.
If you do this, the first thing you’ll notice is a HUGE increase in fuel consumption. Secondly, probably before you get to notice the fuel consumption(before you get down the road, really), your motor will bend a valve. Depending on the motor, it might cause the valve to fall into the cylinder which will screw up a piston (or more) and who knows what’ll happen after that. . .

Just get a new aftermarket system put on.

You can eliminate the muffler and for that matter, everything behind the catalytic converter. You may NOT, however, do anything to modify or remove the cat, under draconian penalty of the Federal government.

If that cat looking thing is sitting close to the muffer (Like in front of it about 2 to 6 inches) thats call a resonator. It’s just another muffler but it is straight through. You won’t have any damaged to the engine, however you may cause a check engine light.

No cat needed, but your engine needs to create some back pressure in the exhaust system, I would go with a high flowing muffler, that should sound nice. . .

Your computer controlled engine is specifically set up for the catalytic converter and muffler back pressure. First of all it is probably illegal to take off the converter, and the ecm needs the cat to properly run. Now, you can change the muffler. If you just want noise, get a flowmaster or other muffler designed for your setup. It’s tuned to run correctly from the factory with the cat. converter and also the other back pressure from the muffler. But something that is designed for your truck will work. I’m sure it has a smog pump and if you take off the cat. converter I don’t think it will run right. Just my opinion

Do you give a shit about noise and air pollution or are you so into yourself that nothing else matters as long as you get your “noise”? That’s a work truck not a toy to drive around to impress with. Think about the future a little and do the sensible thing, I hope you get pulled over and nailed good!
