Is there a type of tune up you can perform on a diesel engine?
I know it’s obviously not the same as tuning up a gas engine, but wondered if there is some things that can be done?
I have a 7.3 power stroke and it seems to be running a little rough. I thought mabe it could use a tune up?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Absolutely, go to any reputable diesel mechanic and they can change out all the filters and glow plugs. . . etc. .
Replacement of air filter and other filters
Inspection of emission controls
Over time the engine timing may change, which will affect starting, power, rough or erratic idle. Some things to check a rough motor are: bring the truck up to operating temp, and loosen the fuel lines at the injectors one by one, if you loosen one and the engine gets rough, retighten and move on. On a newer engine you will have to cut out the cylinders with a computer. If you find one that doesn’t change the pitch, you may also have a fuel injection problem, either fuel timing, electrical, or cam timing.
Air and fuel filters. If still a little rough have injectors pressure tested!
