Chevy Diesel Mudding what went wrong?

I went mudding with my truck, I made it through the same pit 3 times going through from the start at a high speed. So i wanted more of a challenge so I went in slower (my stupidity).
It turns out Going through fast kept me from falling into these 4 big tire ruts left recently before me, going in slow i dropped right into them and other than the water pouring into my truck it was still running. No water got into the intake my tires were spinning just throwing water and mud everywhere i was going no where I put it into 4×4 and i heard clanks (my chevy has prior history of this it wasnt the 4×4 it just got stuck again) but then my tires just stopped moving and it would not do reverse or drive. What the hell went wrong?!?!
I got water in the tranny but after i flushed it, it would drive again.
How did water get in i thought it was sealed.

My truck is stock ive only changed the lift and added bigger tires and added a Hypertech power programmer. Everything else was left alone.

I drive a: 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.6l Duramax turbo Diesel (with the Allison transmission)
I had a 4” rancho lift and i want to know what I need to do before i go mudding to prevent this from happening again. Thanks

    How deep was the water?
    Most auto’s have a vent tube that will allow water into them.
    If the trans is hot, and it suddenly becomes cold (as in dunking it in freezing water) it creates a vacuum inside the trans which will pull water into it through the vent tube.
    You need to route / extend the vent above any possible water depth.

    Check the dip stick tube on your trans. Make sure its seated in the rubber seal properly. Also look at the rear seal on trans and transfer case. If you added lift kit and tires you changed the angle and geometry of drive shafts, this can put stress on seals
    Most guys do not realize that playing in the mud is supper hard on transmition. They can over heat and burn up. I found out the hard way then got wise and added extra trans oil cooler and temp gage for trans oil temp.
