Powerstroke Performance – Duramax Performance – Cummins Performance

Cummins or Powerstroke?

i am in a pickle of what vehicle i should trade my 2 door Z71 tahoe sport for. i need a diesel pickup, i have always been a cummins fan for the diesel mpg and the reliability, i have also heard the 7.3 powerstroke is a good motor as well.
what kind of fuel mpg does the ford get with the 7.3?
what are common problems with the motor or the truck?
here is the Ford link– http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/ctd/1316713134.html

ok, i know the dodge will get from 16-20 depending on how its driven, also, i know you have to put front brakes on a dodge every 20k miles or so. whats the difference in the 12v cummins and the 24v? what are common motor and truck problems with this vehicle?

and lastly, which truck do you think will be the best for me? i WILL be putting a edge, bullydog, or smarty chip in whichever truck i get, so keep that in mind. Thank ya’ll!

the dodge has 189k and the ford has 168k

i go with the powerstroke deisel, one reason they last forever if you
maintain them, second, the powerstroke has more power, torque,
    more power upgrades. . . . .

both engines are long lasting, reliable, and fairly economical to run. they both get about the same fuel economy. both engines can also make a ton of power with a few simple mods.

the 12v or 24v for the cummins indicates the number of valves in the cylinder head. the 24v cummins has 4 valves per cylinder.

the powerstroke has a tendency to eat glow plugs, but they are easy enough to change, and fairly cheap. the dodge has some issues with the transmissions, as does the ford.

as for a recommendation, personally i prefer the ford, but the dodge is good enough that i wouldnt mind owning one of those either. in the end the choice is yours, drive both and pick the one you like best, and best suits your needs.

definitly go with cummins I’ve got 2 cummins that both have at least 325k on them and they still run great! You also cant forget that once a stroker gets to about 650hp they start falling apart, it hardly matters what you do to it they still break, but i know of at least 3 cummins that are running 1450hp+ and work just fine. although after about 200k the transmission usually goes bad if its automatic.

powerstroke for sure, the 7. 3 is a bullet proof set up and is very reliable and with proper mods can get decent fuel economy.

You really cant go wrong with either one. The Cummins and the Powerstroke are dependable and you have strong supporters of both. One of the things to consider is what types of miles are you going be putting on it.
