Did I put the wrong oil in my diesel engine?

I inadvertently put a motor oil designed for a gas engine in my diesel engine. Will this cause a problem if I run the engine for about 30 minutes, just enough time to get to the shop that is going to do some work on it/ do an oil change?

Oil for diesel engines is designed to operate under higher pressures without breaking down.

If you goofed and put oil designed for gasoline engines in your diesel, you could ride for several days even weeks without causing any damage. Oil designed for diesels is better, but short term use of the other oil won’t cause a catastrophe.

So get the oil changed, but don’t worry, it’s not an emergency.

I run valvoline 10-40 in my powerstroke. That oil is also used in gasoline engines as well. It’s pretty much personal prefference. I have a 96 F250 that has had that same oil ran in it for 565,000 miles.
