I have a 2004 Chevy silverado with a Duramax diesel. Can I run off-road (deyed) diesel?

Don’t get caught doing it! I think you still can with an ‘04 but ‘06 and newer are designed to run on low sulfur diesel. I’m not sure what the off road is these days but it may not be as refined as what you get at the pump. They used to be the same thing only one was dyed, but federal regulations from a few years ago caused some changes.
As long as you’re paying road tax, you will be fine legally.
The thing about the newer diesels is that they can run off ULSD (500 ppm) more effeceintly than earlier models becuase of the gaskets they use. ULSD is a drier fuel, so on the earlier trucks. . it would dry out the gaskets and cause them to crack. If a newer truck is running LSD (5000 ppm) then it is just getting better lubrication. . . . no risk of a gasket drying out. Now I’m not sure if duramax injectors would be sensitive with that type of fuel. . . . .
