My buddy told me that Ford discontinued the 7.3 Powerstroke in 2002 and went with the 6.0 beginning 2003. I know when Ford came out with the 6.0 they were having alot of problems with the motors from International…..what year did they solve the problem? I think I would prefer a later model with the 7.3 but may have to settle for a 6.0…..any ideas?

The 7. 3 is no doubt the best, my father has an F-350 with over 350,000 miles and it still pulls hard. From my experience, the 6. 0 isn’t that bad either. My family bought a 2003 Excursion with the 6. 0 and haven’t had any problems whatsoever, when we took it in for warranty work (oil changes and stuff) the dealership upgraded the things Ford told them to, things that were supposedly wrong with it.
My advice to you is if you go to buy a vehicle with a 6. 0, make sure it has a service record that shows that it has had all the necessary upgrades from Ford. If so, then you are good to go.
Hope this helps.
I have a 2004 F250 with a 6. 0 and i haven’t had any work done outside of regular maintenance . On the average i get 17 mpg towing a 9000 lbs trailer and about 18 without towing . I bought mine used 2 years old and had service records sense new and just maintenance stuff . Best of luck
to be honest, i think the 7. 3 is way better, im no diesel mechanic, but i have driven in both and from my experience towing with both of those trucks my winner of the two is the 7. 3
