@ljhopp1 That is ONE scenario leading to head gasket failure. I have seen plenty of head gasket issues with clean coolant, tuning is the number one killer of head gaskets. Malfunctioning EGR system pumps exhaust heat right into the coolant pressurizing the coolant system and ultimately pushing coolant past the coolant cap. But by far the biggest problem is the “Loose Nut behind the wheel” I. E. driver abuse and neglect.
So the whole problem starts with keeping the coolant system very clean and then adding some ec-1 coolant which does not sludge up from heat. When the oil cooler can do its job like it’s suppose to the oem head bolts will never stretch and the factory gasket will not be problem.
The actual problem is not the head gasket but rather the ford coolant that breaks down easy and sludge’s up which clogs the oil cooler. When the oil cooler gets clogged the cooler can’t cool the oil enough to get rid of the heat. So the oil is then not cooling the piston enough which creates higher combustion problems which then creates more heat that makes the oem head bolts stretch.
@powerstrokehelp How exactly is the heat from the head gasket getting into the coolant. How does arp studs allow less heat to get into the coolant then regular head bolts? The arp studs don’t stretch like oem head bolts. But from my understanding if the oem head gasket is good then it’s good. If the oem head bolts are good then heat won’t get into the coolant.
@dieseldad55 The CAC or charge air cooler is an item that we inspect when we bulletproof and replace if needed.
@PowerStrokeGuru1 Dont be sorry. Most of the customers I have want a one stop solution. Fix it ONE time. And yes you are correct the oil cooler is a very large part of it. 80-90% of the time when we have done just the egr cooler and oil cooler the customer is back within a few months with head gasket issues needing and oil cooler again because the truck has heated up. The customer is aggravated that I did not fix it right the first time, so we usually go right to bulletproofing in the beginning.
Do you know of any places in new jersey to get a 6. 0 bulletprofed?
Some of the info in this video is wrong. Head gaskets and EGR coolers are not the problem, it is the oil cooler. The oil cooler gets clogged with left over sand from the casting process which restricts the flow of coolant and this will cause excessive pressure to build up in the cooling system and take out the EGR cooler and the head gaskets. 99 out of 100 times you just need to repalce the oil cooler and EGR cooler. Do your home work before you start replacing or deleting anything. Sorry Bill
Hey Bill, I have a 2004 F250 ext cab. 2 wd. with 76000. I have done the 4″ magnaflow turbo back, Airhog cold air filter intake, EGR bypass, and run a 2005 Superchips tuner.
I am looking at the bullet proof video and see you don’t mention anything about the intercooler, (stock has plastic tanks. Mine have split before), and the intake elbow, (stock is restricted air flow). Do you have any othet recommendations ?? Thanks for the videos & the awesome advise.
Hello Bill. You talk of most items to bullet proof the 6. 0, but you don’t mention anything about the intercooler (stock has plastic tanks) or intake manifold elbows (stock has restricted flow). I have done the EGR block off, type as you suggested, 4″ Magnaflow turbo back exhaust and an Airhog cold air intake filter kit. My 2004 F250 truck has 76,000 mi. and I tow a 12000 lb. 5er, about 2000 mi. /year.
hey i was wondering if removing the silencer ring from the turbo has any benefit besides the cool whistle?
Respond to this video. . . Yes the tuned 6. 7 is the fastest diesel truck I have ever ridden in even with NOS. and it does it with no effort. It is a true wolf in sheep’s clothing, just put put around like it is stock but mash the pedal and hang on. The only cars I ever rode in that ran like this is my cousin’s 1970 hemi cuda that was heavily modified. Scary as hell. And a 1981 Porche 930 Ruf twin turbo. That car would kill some one who did not respect it in a matter of minutes.
@excinarater I’m just glad I could hep.
Bill are you saying the 6. 7 will out perform a 6. 0 that’s bullet proof and modded with exhaust, tuner and intake/
And Lizardman I have talked to bill in the past on the phone, he personally took the time to answer my questions and at a time when all anyone could say about a 6. 0 is I don’t know or its a PoS.
He is hands down the most knowledgeable person that I have ever talked to about the 6. 0. I live in Houston and when I buy my next 6. 0 It goes to him day 1!
hey Bill, i was on the autotrader website today and saw a 03 6. 0 f250 and a 06 6. 0 f350 both for a good price. And i was wondering do you recommend the early 6. 0 or later 6. 0 in terms of dependability, reliability and fuel economy.
@powerstrokehelp thank you for the info! I appreciate it. . . .
@strumem90 I have had nothing but trouble out of aftermarket fuel systems unless you order the complete system from ELITE Diesel Engineering. For most aftermarket fuel pumps the stock fuel lines are too small so the pumps get hot and burn up. Left many of my customers on the side of the road. Type “6. 0 ELITE FUEL SYSTEM UPGRADE” into the search bar above. Or type “INJECTOR IMMORTALITY”
@lizardman212002 Last time I checked this IS still the United States of America and we are free to do what we want with our vehicles. The emissions systems never worked correctly on the 6. 0 in the first place. I agree that if you live in a jurisdiction that requires diesel emissions tests, the bulletproof EGR system is the best solution, I recommend them all the time.
Hey Bill,
Just purchased an ‘07 with blown gaskets. While I am under there with the cab off, do you recommend an aftermarket fuel filter system like AirDog or XX-Fuel? Both those brands include water separator filters. Or do you have a brand you’ve used in the past? Really appreciate the help! Your videos are making this much easier for me and saving me some cash too. God Bless you!
Tim
hmm, too bad the egr delete procedure is illegal, got to bulletproofdieselcom if you want better advise then this guy
@REMFORDPOLARIS If you want to go fast save your money and buy the new 6. 7L. The performance is astonishing even in mild tunes. You will be able to suck as many of those hondas and Nissans up your tailpipe as you want.
I dont know if you can answer this or not but, what truck should I by a 7. 3 a 6. 0 or a 6. 4 i will do a lot of city driving and some towing of trailers up and down hills. I drive 30 to 40,000 miles a year. I am in college and VERY good mechanicaly going to college for mechanical engineer. But I need a diesel what do you think I will have the best bet with. I will be modding it also to take out ricers. Thanks
Sweet! 6 more pmts on my Excursion 6. 0 then I can start getting real work done on it. . . . See you soon!
@4rdt0ugh08 That is not true. the Allison transmission is a GM product used on most class 6 and up chassis. The transmission in the Ford trucks is made by Ford.
@DilleymanF250 IF your head gaskets are in good shape it will help tremendously. Most people who do the delete are doing it to replace a blown EGR cooler and usually they compromised the head gaskets in the process. The only way to be sure is to bulletproof it.
