I heard that Duramax has nothing to do with Chevy … same thing with allison trans. do they really what the deal with the relationship… what about dodge and the Cummins and ford with the powerstrock. do these the dealers make the engines

Duramax is its own company and so is Allison transmissions but they are exclusive on almost all GM vehicles. Its basically the same case with Ford and Dodge but alot of the Cummins engines are used in semi trucks
GM produces the Duramax engine line. There are a few different versions, but the most common is the 6. 6L version that is in full sized pickups. These Duramax engines were originally designed in conjunction with Isuzu, but are manufactured in the US. Allison was owned by GM (like Hydramatic is) until 2007, when it sold off controlling interest.
Cummins is a supplier of diesel engines for Chrysler. Ford buys the Powerstroke engines from International (Navistar). Both manufacturers provide their own callibrations for these products.
