I hit a tree head on at 45 mph. and my airbag did not deploy. I drive a chevrolet 2006 2500 hd duramax diesel 4×4. Is GM responsible or liable?

did you hit it nose on? if not, airbag will not come on. they are made for direct frontal impacts unless you have side airbags, etc. then sensors are on the side as well.
Most likely, no. I have seen this occur before, being a firefighter. The placement of the sensor for the airbags dictates whether they will blow or not in a collision. You should consider yourself lucky if you weren’t injured, and if you weren’t, thank your lucky stars above, because most of the time, an airbag deployment will total the vehicle. You probably hit the tree at such an angle, the sensors didn’t detect a crash and therefore didn’t blow the bags.

The fire fighter is Incorrect it is on the enursha system does not even need to be near or around the switch, he may have seen them not go off but he is un knollageable in this feild obivously,
I have four years of schooling in both auto and diesel mechanics, and ten years experience on top of that. I know how these systems work and what makes them work, we had demonstrations in our shop class. Be careful who you deem as unknowledgeable. I don’t care how long you have been a mechanic, I suggest you research the airbag systems on GM cars and trucks. Yes, it is measured by decelleration ( inertia, so to speak) and it is possible that such a crash would not trip the sensor. You have to keep in mind that the vehicle itself is going to absorb a lot of the crash.
Just sue them!! See what happens. Then get back to me.
You Bet let the Highway Traffic Safety Board know about this , and your insurance Co. The MFG GM, & and Osha , NTSB, they deploy under that speed I sure hope you did not get Injured, They are supose to deploy up tp 15 miniutes even if the battery cables are cut or the battery is destroyed somehow in a wreck, it has its own back up coil behind the hydrovac brake booster in the vehicle, The fire fighter is Incorrect it is on the enursha system does not even need to be near or around the switch, he may have seen them not go off but he is un knollageable in this feild obivously, and even if your car is parked and not running and your not in it it still is suppose to go boom
definetly they are resposible,sue them.
Uh yes if you didn’t get any work done on the car which involved the airbag being meddled with!
