What is it you are wanting us to answer?!

The Dodge or Ford would be the better choice for the lift. . . It is easier to lift a solid axle truck, and they do better with larger tires than that GM would (GM has IFS).

The F450 has dual rear wheels standard, so that brings up a small issue with tire width (the duals could rub together without spacers or a larger offset wheel) An F350 can be had with a single rear wheel.

Well the Ford F450 is by far the most powerful and its frame is built tough and made to handle the power. So I would go with the F450.

Well if your bro is buying a new 3500, I would go with the 4×4 Dodge Cummings dually,
    1) since its a inline 6 you don’t have to deal with the head ache of a V-8, even though the allison in the GM is 100% bullet proof compared to the Dodge or ford trans. Out of the show room floor the Ford Triton engine is stronger but have problems with turbo failure and the GM injector seals in the heads have a leaking issue.
    2) What is also nice about the Dodge is just like the others you can modify the engine with just a programmer an get a extra 100 plus HP. And for a fraction of the cost you can get close to 1000 HP on the dodge
And what a lot of owners are doing is buying a Allison trans ( $$$$$ )and adaptor to stuff in the Dodge.
    3) For a 12″ lift have your bro contact full throttle suspensions in California, they do all 3 makes.
And a pro for Ford, a lot of fire departments have been outfitted with the F-550, kind of out of the box all around truck. Plus the firefighters ( Paramedics truck ) are not allowed to mess with the engine or trans, just save lives and keep the truck shiney

Rent all three at different intervals and buy the one you want the most, it is cheaper than buying one you don’t want

Ya, the 1st guy is right. You do not want dual tires if you intend to lift it. The clearance problems are going to be a pain in the arse if you do. You can get all three trucks in a one ton chassis w/o duals. The Cummins will live forever. The trans in the Chevy will live forever. But the Ford gives better choices in engines. You can get a gas V8, gas V10, or twin turbo diesel. But it can get so pricey real fast. When it comes down to it, it will be about who is going to give you the best deal. Plenty of this stuff out there used too. So many people got rid of their trucks during the economic crisis. So be sure to scope out the truck trader ads & autotrader. com. G’luck!

Dodge all the way, sounds awesome to me! Plus it would handle better with all the modifications.

Cummins is always the way to go.
I would go with the 2500 though, usually the same axles you can get it in diesel and much more likely to find a SRW (Single Rear Wheel) than a 3500.
I would look into regearing with whatever vehicle he gets so that it doesn’t completely screw the tranny with that much lift and that big of tires. Maybe drop down to 5. 13s
