www.smokingunracing.com The Smokin’ Gun – a 1968 Kenworth Drag Truck powered by a TNT 8V92 and driven by Gord Cooper. This picture and video compilation shows the early years of the Smokin’ Gun as Gord Cooper sets a Milestone with Canada’s First and Fastest Diesel Pro Rig. This nitrous injected diesel drag semi started out entertaining race fans with big burnouts and flaming smokestacks in places like Edmonton, Alberta; Woodburn Oregon; and Medicine Hat, Alberta. Announcers Barry Davies and Davies call the action in Medicine Hat.
short wheelbase & long power a squirrelly combo. probably takes a few hard knocks? – sometimes at others expense to learn?
Yeah we run it till it blows or starts to show evident signs of power? robbing wear and tear. Before our Shell Rotella T sponsorship and our alliance with T-N-T motorsports (built the engine we now use) we used to rebuild at least once if not twice a year. Now we get a season and a half or two seasons without rebuilding providing there are no mishaps such as driver error or competitor stupidity (we’ve had some mishaps)
Sure, there is room (and the need) for secrets in most any competition. Can you talk about engine life? Do you run them until they blow? Or, for example, change rod & main bearings? after a few runs?
Thanks. Yep, its a 4 speed Allison Automatic transmission. He does shift It 1 through 4 while he is racing. Can’t disclose the axel? ratio. Sorry but thats a drag racing ’secret’ according to the boss.
Very cool. What for a transmission. . . is it some sort of HD Allison? automatic or are you shifting gears? Rear axle ratio?
Its not set but the engine? can safely turn 4200RPM+
whats the? rev limiter set at?
I AGREE WITH WHAT HOTRODx199 SAYS?
IT SURE IS MAN? I AGREE
That? is BADASS MAN!
