so i noticed that ford doesnt have a linup for the 7.3 powerstroke, just the 6.0 and 6.4
and i was watching some 7.3 videos on youtube and read a comment saying something that said that EPA made them stop manufacturing them! so what lie did those stupid econuts makeup to get rid of that awesome engine!!!
jenna i knew that international made them, and knew that ford had to start making there own…but i think the best answer goes to hunter, and hunter, that sucks what they did to the 7.3s on the line, just trashed, they couldve atleast sold them, and if i ever got a new powerstroke with that def clean exhaust or whatever id yank the crap out of their and put a regular exhaust on, i like the smell and sound of diesel!!!!

International made the 7. 3 for Ford motor company. . . .
International and ford had a fallout after the 6. 0
Now ford has to engineer and make thier own engine. . . .
How about those 10 points for the best answer now?
They started making emissions control tighter because of “global warming”. And for Washington, the 7. 3 didn’t cut the emssions test for them. 6. 0 and 6. 4 are decent engines in my book. . . . but no comparrison to the 7. 3. Yea, one of them stock may be able to out run my truck or pull faster. . . . . . but I’m still going to be pulling in that truck 20yrs from now.
The 6. 0’s and 6. 4’s reburn some of the exhaust so its cleaner so they say.
I was talking to a Ford mechanic a couple of weeks ago and he said that when they switched from the 7. 3 to the 6. 0, they were taking BRAND NEW 7. 3’s out of the factory line and trashing them. Some people snuck some out. But when they changed from the 6. 0 to 6. 4. . . . people were helping as much as they could to get rid of them.
I think for the new diesels with emission control in mind, they got it down pretty good with the new 6. 7L Scorpion Powerstroke. Ford offered the job to International/NAVISTAR, but they could not come to a long term agreement to a set price. So Ford now build it in house. The engine monitors every asspect of the engine’s paremeters. If one sensor is reading anything but normal, the truck starts limiting the power that can be put to it. . . . kinda like a safe mode. So this truck will pretty much protect you from expensive repairs. And it still get better fuel milage in its stock form than the 6. 0 and 6. 4.
The government would not allow them to sell, nor finish, the engines that were in the factory line. For them, that would just mean more trucks on the road that didn’t meet there standards on the emissions control. I got sick when I found out that they did this. I know I would have like to have a new engine “thrown away” into my truck : D
Hunter had some ideas but I’m not sure if what he was told by the other guy was true or not.
the 7. 3 was killed due to the emissions as it would have been very expensive to make the engine use say EGRs and such when it was never designed for it, plus Ford was loosing power advantage to the competition.
The last 7. 3 made for the f-series was supposed to be on November 27,2002 hince many 2003s with either the 7. 3 or 6. 0. There were some 7. 3 that were made for the class 6 f-650/750 trucks I think for a little while longer.
the 6. 0 met the same fate as the 7. 3 with emissions and this is why Ford/International went with the 6. 4 diesel as it could meet 2007 emission standards (and why the 2008s came out in early 2007)
The 6. 7 scorpion was done for emissions as well as Ford and International finally killing that part of the engine deal due to so many high warranty rates due to engine damages due to bad design people were going to other brands. the 6. 7 was taken in house where things could be built Ford’s way
And there are tuners out there to yank the DEF filters on the 2008-2010 but one of those don’t get caught running them. . . Haven’t heard anything about the new engines that need the diesel exhaust fluid as if the tank runs out or doesn’t see any movement it throws up flags and can shut the truck down
