What is the gas mileage of a cummins diesel engine?

I am curious if a cummins diesel has better gas mileage than the V8 duramax and powerstroke engines

   For a V8 engine, about 22 mpg.

   My ‘02 – 6 spd (4. 10 gears) is around 20 MPG. The newer Cummins are reportedly harder on fuel.

   The Cummins held the fuel economy trophy during the 90’s and early 00’s. Now the Duramax is the leader since the new emissions and DPF (diesel Particulate Filter).
