id use a real good 15-w-40 in it and stay with a name brand if possible, Pennzoil makes a real good diesel oil ,that’s what i usually use when I’m changing oil for a customer, and some people swear by other brands,it all depends on what your use to using in it,id try and stay with a good brand ,now because all oils have to meet certain standards before they can be sold,id also use a K& N filter on it,i got hooked on those filters and they have proven to be as good as they advertise them to be,good luck.
I’d use synthetic and just make sure it has the right classification on the label. Any 15w -40 that is synthetic should surpass the requirements for your engine but look on the bottle to be sure
rotella, dello, moble 1, they all are close in quality, the key is to change your oil every time it’s due and don’t put it off.
Once the oil is near it’s time to be changed, the additives breakdown and don’t protect the bearings and turbo as well
I have read numerous reports that substantiate synthetic oil as best at protecting the turbo from getting caked up with deposits that will ruin the bearings.
A friend uses Delcron synthetic 15W40 and has over 150,000 trouble free miles. Many people say Amsoil or Mobil One is better but they cost more and don’t seem to offer better protection. The oils have the same rating on the container so don’t spend the extra unless you are really worried about the difference.
motor oil
a friend of mine runs delo 400, swears by it. has had several cummins

ALWAYS CHECK YOUR OWNERS MANUAL FIRST to see what is recommended
what year is it, because if it is the new 6. 7L then you need to use a oil that is meant to be run with the Diesel Particulate Filter
AMSOIL DEO 5W-40.
If the oil you’ve had in there isn’t a synthetic, you’ll probably want your engine flushed first. Synthetic and Mineral oils don’t tend to mix nicely.
