What’s an economical rpm to run a car diesel engine?

I know on a Gasoline engine, shifting and running between 2000-3000 RPM is economical and easy for the engine.. how about a car diesel engine?

On nearly every car: As low as possible without lugging the engine. If you put your foot down and it still accelerates normally, you’re not too low. If it feels like you’re towing a pallet of cinder blocks up a flight of stairs, you’re too low.

Anywhere between 1-4000rpm, even higher in some cars. A Cummins Ram likes to run very low RPM like 1200 where a MB 300D is fine at 3K all day.
