That’s a really open ended question.

How many upgrades? What type? How well were they installed?

And bottom line, are the two drivers 100% identical? You can have a 1,000 horsepower car lose to a 300 horsepower car, simply if the driver can’t put the vehicle down the road properly.

if your talking just “bolt on” upgrades yes the duramax i personally love diesels my good friend has one that he takes to the track and rapes all out drag cars even though hes got a huge weight disadvantage its ridiculos it makes so much torque its crazy id go for the duramax

People can say anything they want about drivers being identical and etc. . . . which are all true statements, but to simply answer your question, it would be the DURAMAX. No doubts, hands down. It is a simple answer for more reason than I care to list and you care to read. So again, you are correct with thinking DURAMAX. Good Luck!

It totally depends upon the meaning of “fast” in your question. You are correct as far a added modifications go, the Duramax would be the faster vehicle but at quite an added expense. You need to remember that presently the Duramax is offered only as a 2500 (3/4ton) truck. That means it’ll be heavier but it will have ungodly torque (pulling power) in stock form. You must consider our rotten Democratic controlled government and their super high taxes on diesel fuel when making your choice. What you save on gallons of energy you waste on taxes!

Now if you want breakneck speed and great drag race capability for a lot less money I’d go for a 2 wheel drive 1500 with the 6. 0 (366 cubic inch) motor @ 367 hp. with 338 lb. ft. torque. You’ll have to poke and prod a little but there are some optional final drive ratios. As you might imagine this would be a much lighter, quicker truck in stock form. Headers, chip and a decent exhaust system would make this truck run with the “big dogs. “

    Go with the Duramax

Diesels are shit for racing unless you sink a ton of money into them – then they can be faster than any gas engine, but you’d have wasted about 20,000$ by then. You can build a decently fast 350 if that’s what the 1500 has in it for not much money. Diesels are incredible torquers but really don’t have the punch for going fast, they’re for hauling. I have beaten EVERY diesel truck I have run across, turbo diesel, 4WD, computer chips/exhaust, you name it with my 4. 3L Silverado 5 spd (with some mods of course). The regular full size trucks are about even with me (I beat new fords every time), in short diesel trucks are slow unless you have tons of money.
