Powerstroke Performance – Duramax Performance – Cummins Performance

Which would be the better diesel truck and why?

I’ve been doing a lot research on diesel trucks and want to get other opinions on them and their performance. I’m torn between a 95-97 Ford F-250 with the powerstroke diesel or the 96-98 Dodge Ram 2500 with the cummins diesel. What’s your opinion on each and why? Pros and cons.

Thank y’all.

Personally, I’m a Cummins fan. I’ve owned both a 95′ F350 7. 3 Powerstroke and a 97′ Ram 3500 5. 9 Cummins. I was thoroughly NOT impressed by the 7. 3 felt more like driving a BB gasser than a true diesel. Cummins also has a proven track record. The I-6 engine has more cubes per bore, much longer stroke, less moving parts. everything is cast iron or steel, more HP/TQ per cube, it requires less RPM’s to reach peak TQ/HP, they have much brauder power band, and they are often used in Heavy/Medium duty trucks.

I strongly recommend a 95-97 Ford F250 Powerstroke. Cummins are slow trucks that just waist diesel and don’t move a bit. I have to admit they are strong and long lasting but why do you want a truck that lasts 200,000 miles but go’s from 0-60 in 5 days. I have driven Ram 98 3500 Cummins 12 valve Have driven 96 Ram 2500 Cummins 24 valve. Powerstrokes are very strong and they are fast. Powerstrokes won’t disappoint nobody. My truck has 160,000 miles and no problems.

They didn’t have 24v cummins in the 90s. But I have a 96 F250k with 640k mi on factory injectors. I also have an 01 F350 with 200k. I’ve pulled any load I’ve ever needed to with my 96. . mated out the leaf springs several times.
