Wouldn’t a Hummer H2 make sense with a Duramax diesel and get 22mpg? Diesel engines can be converted to run on vegetable oil, you can make biodiesel in your garage, and you get better miles. Besides converting the stock engine to diesel, why doesn’t GM offer it with both a gasoline/petrol and diesel engine instead of only getting 9mpg in a gasoline/petrol engine?

despite the rumors, the gas v8 gets much better than 9 mpg, no matter how much the media wishes it didn’t. it gets about 16, which isn’t horrible for a v8 in a large SUV. but i agree with you, they should try the duramax in that vehicle, the only issue i see with it is that the duramax is too big of an engine to fit in the engine bay of an H2.
The military version has a turbodiesel, and the 4 wheel drive system is totally different. About the only thing that is the same is the body style.
part of the reason is that the people who buy these cars, don’t want to deal with smelly dirty diesel.
Now I know the duramax is a great engine and much cleaner burning than diesels of the past. But when a salesman mentions ‘Diesel’ soccer moms cringe at the idea.
Doctors, rich moms and most people that can afford the thing don’t like the idea of diesel.
